You can wait for evolution or you can begin using the technologies that are available today and ride the wave toward the fully converged networks of tomorrow. Even as developers are defining the architecture, boundaries, requirements, and interfaces for a shared unified communications network of tomorrow, the current solutions provide a wide open space to grow and evolve existing business services.
The ability to work from any single device, anywhere, any time is more in demand today than ever in history. From enterprise business to small business to consumer, the end user doesn’t care what network delivers services. Chapter 1 will review the broad aspects and implications of convergence in several forms.
Chapter 1: Introduction to Unifying Network Management and Converged IP Communications, written by Ken Camp, is available at: http://nexus.realtimepublishers.com/links/newsletter/dgcnm.asp

Protecting information assets is a multifaceted challenge. To begin, there are many kinds of threats to information assets, ranging from external attackers to natural disasters. There are correspondingly many countermeasures and risk mitigation strategies to reduce the potential impact of these threats. Once in place, security measures must be managed and maintained-particularly with an eye to keeping up with changing security conditions. And if there were a security breach, security andv information management teams would have to respond to control the damage and recover as quickly as possible. Chapter 3 will examine several key parts of the life cycle of Internet access protection systems.

Service delivery is a complex mosaic of multiple processes and procedures that are required to introduce, manage, and develop information services. The previous chapter examined how service delivery is deployed with processes such as incident management, configuration management, change management, and release management. Chapter 6 continues the discussion of service delivery, but turns your attention to management.

By definition, managed devices are under the control of IT management, and security and systems management professionals have many options at their disposal for preventing information theft. Previous chapters have described methods for protecting information during transmission and when in use on unmanaged devices. Chapter 6 will examine the varying security needs within a managed perimeter. The topics will include: the nature of different client devices and their security requirements, the security needs of servers and applications, and securing network infrastructure.
Throughout, the chapter will examine common threats to protecting the confidentiality and integrity of information and countermeasures to those threats.
