Data can be well protected within a controlled infrastructure but is especially vulnerable to theft or tampering when it is transmitted. Chapter 4 will examine the technologies used to secure data during transmission along with management issues that arise when these technologies are deployed. The discussion begins with encryption, a technology essential to protecting the confidentiality of information during transmission.
