The conventional way of planning for Exchange Server storage is to throw a lot of disk storage at the server and hope that is sufficient. Mail storage requirements continue to grow not only for disk storage but also for disk I/O capacity. As current capacity requirements are exceeded, the storage system must provide scalability. The Shortcut Guide™ to Exchange Server 2007 Storage Systems, authored by Microsoft Exchange MVP Jim McBee, covers Exchange Server storage capacity requirement planning, the basics of using iSCSI SANs, and best practices for scalability and SAN operations.

Chapter 2 begins by providing an overview of several features of server and hardware virtualization. Capabilities such as the option to roll back the configuration of a virtual machine and the simplicity of moving or copying a virtual machine make this technology a compelling option for many areas of a typical organization. The focus of the chapter is on ways in which various business units and personnel can take advantage of these features. Specific groups included systems administrators, training staff, and software developers.
Chapter 2: Virtualization Scenarios and Applications, written by Anil Desai, is available at: http://nexus.realtimepublishers.com/dgvpm.htm

As useful and effective as best practices of systems mangement are, they cannot guarantee that operations will always go as planned, that projects will stay on schedule, or that negative events will not occur. Part of effective systems management is managing the risks inherent in IT operations. Chapter 10 will examine two topics within the broader area of IT risk management:
1. The practice of risk analysis
2. The impact of risks and their implications for risk management.
Chapter 10: Managing Risks in Information Systems, written by Dan Sullivan, is available at: http://nexus.realtimepublishers.com/dgsosm.htm

!Through earlier chapters, the impetus behind securing any and all forms of at-risk file transfers was clearly elucidated and loosely enumerated. Now that you know the answers to why you should secure at-risk file transfers, you will discover how such transfers can be secured. Chapter 3 begins with a topical discussion of network reference models, protocols, and services to describe the security concepts that are introduced immediately thereafter. The chapter takes a ground-up approach to describing the aspects of securing digital communications in the context of public networks. A discussion then follows with several worthy and practical solutions to establishing and maintaining secure communications.
Chapter 3: Securing File Transfer, by Ed Tittel, is available at:

Perhaps the most important technical aspect of any migration project is the laboratory setup. Labs are essential if you want to properly test your Vista systems before deployment and assure total quality, you need to fully understand the needs of your technical teams. Labs are not only technical, but also rely on processes. How do you design systems so that your teams will properly graduate testing from one level to another? How do you make the most of virtual technologies when building the migration lab? If you want answers to these questions, then don't miss this podcast.

Initial "beta" deployment and fine tuning are also discussed. The background knowledge needed to make proper design choices for your implementation as well as selection and use of simulation tools are covered in depth. Details of the set of customizable spread sheets which can be used to select your ideal simulation tool is a highlight of this podcast.
