File transfer has a most peculiar way of showing up inside applications, scripts, and automated tasks, often without being documented either as being used or being necessary. But those who do try a "brute force" approach to blocking file transfer all too often realize that this technique doesn't work without prior investigation and analysis, and some remediation to replace insecure file transfer tools and protocols with more secure alternatives. The easy way out proves neither easy nor terribly effective, as some IT and security professionals have learned to their detriment.
